You may be wondering what the California Indoor Climbing Coalition has been up to. As a large number of indoor climbing centers around California remain closed, the ball is currently in the state's court. We've lobbied, presented our case to public health officials, and provided expert material backed by science and doctors. We are waiting for the state to take action, make changes, and acknowledge that indoor climbing is a low (Covid) risk activity and that climbing centers are taking all the right precautions.
You'll be happy to hear that the work of CICC has been successful with the state of Washington. At the end of 2020, we shared our material with climbing center owners in Washington. Being in a similar situation as us, they lobbied and had a major victory. The state of Washington released new reopening phases and deemed climbing centers as low (Covid) risk, therefore allowing them to reopen at limited capacity and under state health guidelines.
Our work is not done and we still need your help! Contact our California representatives and Governor to include climbing centers in the early phases of the state's reopening plan.
